Overview

In collaboration with Rutgers University, our team developed TaskU, a groundbreaking app designed to cultivate a vibrant sense of community among Rutgers students. TaskU is a dynamic platform designed to elevate student well-being and foster better connectivity, accountability, and productivity within the Rutgers community post Covid.

My Role: I was responsible for user research, sketches, wireframing, prototyping and Testing.

Timeline: October 2022

Client’s Proposal:

Rutgers University presented a proposal to develop a program focused on enhancing students' mental and physical well-being. The aim was to create a technology-driven platform facilitating the transition from remote learning to campus life. Additionally, the platform should assist students in managing their academic and personal responsibilities by providing access to various university resources and events.

Research process:

Interview: We conducted in-person interviews on Rutgers campuses with diverse participants, including graduate students, first-year students, undergraduates, and faculty.

Our questions focused on understanding their stressors, proposed solutions, sources of motivation, and methods for maintaining mental and physical well-being.

Additionally, we inquired about their strategies for staying connected to Rutgers, the impact of the pandemic on their well-being, and their preferences regarding in-person versus online classes.

Interview Finding

Many participants highlighted therapy, exercise, and healthy eating as effective strategies for combating stress. While they were knowledgeable about addressing their stressors, a common challenge was the lack of accountability in following through with these activities.

Looking Forward:

General Feedback:

Testers grasped the app's objective and unanimously agreed that it effectively assists students in balancing academic pursuits with social connections.

TaskU successfully facilitates students in maintaining their academic goals while staying engaged with their community and friends, providing an interactive experience.

Heuristic Evaluation Findings:

  1. Heuristic #3: "User Control & Freedom" lacked a 'close' button for exiting pop-up notifications or the camera screen.

  2. Heuristic #10: "Help and Documentation" was compromised as users didn't immediately grasp the app's purpose upon opening it.

  3. Heuristic #7: "Flexibility & Efficiency of Use" lacked a 'filter' option for events and a feature to add or remove friends on the social media page.

  4.  Notification: Heuristic: 5, Error Prevention Severity: 3 Limited options for user response to notifications were identified.
